FUSION Coach Bios
  • Kent Cross - Fusion 99/00 Head Coach

    Coach Kent Cross has been a head coach for FME at the Rec & Select level for 10 years.  His teams have experienced success by winning the Rec Cup, NPSL Div. 1, multiple summer tournaments and was a finalist for the Founders State Cup.  Coach Cross played competitive soccer as a youth and adult.  He received First Team All-League as a Goalkeeper in high school and he earned a soccer scholarship for a local college.   As a coach he holds his USSL-E and USSL-D License.  Coach Cross has been an educator for the past 25 years.    


  • Brian Shelton - Fusion 01 Head Coach
    Coach Shelton has a USSF-D license and has been coaching in the club for 20 years.   He has three kids who have grown up on FME select teams.  The 01 team has seen great successes over the years: winning the State Rec Cup, Finalist in the state Founders Cup, NPSL Div 1 Championship, and multiple tournaments wins. Coach Jeff has been coaching with FME for 10 years and has had players in the club for the last 15, his youngest still plays as well. 

  • Kelly Rettko - Fusion 03 Head Coach

    Coach Kelly Rettko has coached at FME for 7 years and has a USSF-E license.  She also coached at Gig Harbor for 3 years & Federal Way for 3 years.  She has played soccer for 30 years both at the Collegiate and Senior level.  As a player she won NAIA Div 1 District 1 Championships  and WSWSA League, State, Regional & National Titles.                            

    Coach Doug Rettko has also coached at FME for 7 years and has a USSF-E license.  Doug coached for three years in Federal way and  played for 25 years as a keeper at the youth, high school and competitive adult leagues/tournaments.  Coach Doug has a USSF-E license.


  • Jesse Poplawski - Fusion 04 Head Coach

    Coach Poplawski has coached at FME for 8 years and has a USSF-E & D license.  His teams have won league play and various tournaments throughout the years & in 2010 won a state cup title.   "Our coaching & training staff has a wealth of soccer experience (one with a USSF-A license) and have been with this team since they started playing at U10.  Their technical and tactical skills are at a very high level due to that being the core of our training and practices.  "Our goal is to help each girl develop to their highest potential and have the skills to go anywhere and play soccer well."  Coach Poplawski has served on the FME board and is involved in a variety of other sports within the community.


  • Todd Phillips - Fusion 05 Head Coach

    Coach Phillips has coached at FME for 7 years and has a USSF-E license.  He is entering his 3rd year as the Head Coach of the 05 girls.  He has had many successes with his teams including multiple undefeated seasons with the most recent winning of the Federal Way Blast off Tournament this past August. Coach Phillips preaches a positive attitude while encouraging players to improve themselves and work as a team on and off the soccer field. He and his family are involved in multiple sports within the Fife, Milton, Edgewood Community.


  • Ben Draeger - Fusion 06 Head Coach

    Coach Ben has coached various levels and ages in the area since 2006.  He holds a USSF National E & D.  Accomplishments include many tournament finalists and championships, including a state championship in 2010.  In addtion to coaching he plays in competitive adult leagues.  "My focus is to create a fun and healthy team environment and to increase a player’s passion for the game.  I will train players in the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of the game.   Soccer is constantly evolving so we must study and intend to improve every day".  


  • Jeremy Thompson - Fusion 07 Head Coach

    Coach Thompson has coached at the rec, select and premier levels over the past 10 years.  He has coached a junior academy and worked with the Tacoma Stars as a youth soccer camp coordinator and guest coach. He started a youth Saturday night drop in program at the Tacoma Soccer Center 4 years ago that is still in operation today.  He has a USSF-F license.  He has played soccer most of his life and still plays indoor once a week. 

    Coach Jaime Draeger has coached at various levels & ages in the area since 2010.  She holds a USSF National E licence & is a candidate for USSF-D.  Not only does she coach but she plays in competitive adult leagues.  Her focus is to create a positive & fun coaching environment while also focusing on engaging players individual strengths.  "While I focus heavily on technical development, I'm also very invested in my players psychological & social development both in their connections with their team and response to the game. 


  • Travis Hull - Fusion 08 Head Coach

    Coach Hull been coaching with FME at the rec & select level for 9 years and has a USSF-E License.  He served as the FMEJSC Vice President for 2 years.   His coaching philosophy is to develop the necessary skills & confidence of his players so they can pursue success both on and off the field.  His favorite phrase of encouragement is, "Play Hard, Have Fun".     The team has multiple trainers creating a vast and dynamic learning environment for the players.


  • Bri Knodel - Fusion 09 Head Coach

    Coach Knodel has coached at FME for 3 years with the rec program and has assisted the select program for 1 year.  She has a USSF-E license.  She has played soccer since she was 4 years old and played HS varsity soccer.  She always tells her girls to play with integrity and skill and leave it all out on the field. Her goal is to have eery girl love the game as much as I do.  "My philosophy is the pain you feel today will be the strength you feel tomorrow, and it never gets easier, you just get better".
